Types of services we regulate

Adult placement service

Services that arrange accommodation for adults (16+) with a family or individual, with personal care, personal support, or counselling/other help (provided other than as part of a planned programme of care) by reason of vulnerability or need.

Care home service

Services that provide accommodation plus nursing/personal care/personal support to people by reason of vulnerability or need.

Housing support service

Services providing support, assistance, advice or counselling to help individuals with particular needs to live in residential accommodation as their sole or main home (subject to exceptions set out in housing regulations).

Nurse agency

Services that supply or introduce registered nurses, midwives or health visitors to people using the service (subject to any regulatory exceptions).

Offender accommodation service

Services giving advice, guidance or assistance to people who have been provided accommodation under section 27(1)(b) or (c) of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 (e.g., probation or prison release), but not support services.

Support service

Services provided (due to a person’s vulnerability or need) by a local authority, a provider arranged by a local authority, a health body, or any person if it includes personal care or personal support.
