Information to help you choose a service

Last updated: 6 May 2026

If you’re looking for a care service, you’ll want to be confident that you or your loved one will receive safe, compassionate and high‑quality care. We’ve put together some information to help you understand what to look for.

Finding services that meet your needs

In Scotland, all care services must be registered with us. You can search for care services that support particular groups of people, for example, childminders, daycare of children's services, care at home, care homes for adults, – by searching our care service register.

Compare services

When we inspect a service, we look at a number of key areas

• How well do services support people’s wellbeing?

• How good is the leadership?

• How good is the staff team?

• How good is the setting?

• How well is the care planned

After each inspection, we publish our evaluations and inspection reports to show how well a service is performing.

These can help you get a clear sense of quality and support your decision‑making.

What good care looks like

Good care is about more than meeting basic needs.

You should feel:

  • respected and listened to

  • involved in decisions

  • supported by staff who are kind, skilled and confident in their role

  • your wellbeing and rights are at the heart of the care you receive.
