Quality Improvement

The Quality Improvement and Participation Section brings together the Quality Improvement Support Team, Health and Social Care Improvement Team, Grant Funded Programmes, and the Participation & Equalities Team to improve outcomes for people who experience care and support across Scotland.  Our quality improvement work supports the Care Inspectorate's strategic objectives by promoting continuous improvement across social care, strengthening rights-based practice, and ensuring the voices of people with lived experience inform and influence our work. We work collaboratively with services, providers, partnerships, communities and people experiencing care to build capacity, share learning and support sustainable improvement.

Health and Social Care Improvement team

The Health and Social Care Improvement Team provides specialist quality improvement across a range of health and social care priorities. It is made up of individuals with specialist practice knowledge in medicines management, nutrition, dementia care, allied health professionals, IPC, nursing, mental health and learning disabilities. The team also contributes to national quality improvement and clinical networks, policy development and the implementation of standards and guidance that support improved outcomes for people experiencing care.

Quality Improvement team

The Quality Improvement team works with care services, providers and partnerships to develop improvement capability and support sustainable change. The team delivers targeted improvement programmes, consultancy support, quality improvement learning and capacity-building activities across adult social care, children's services and early learning and childcare. Current programmes include the Care Home Improvement Programme, Early Learning and Childcare Improvement Programme, Children and Young People's Improvement Programme and the Appropriate Adults Improvement Programme.

Grant Funded Quality Improvement Programmes

Commissioned quality improvement programmes, such as the Early Learning and Childcare improvement programme, Safe Staffing programme and Digital Social Care improvement programme enable us to deliver targeted quality improvement linked to national priorities and emerging areas of need. Working alongside Care Inspectorate colleagues, services and partners, these programmes can work intensively with services to support improvements, help test innovative approaches, spread good practice and support improvement at scale. They play an important role in building sector capability and delivering measurable improvements in experiences and outcomes for people experiencing care.
