Make a complaint about a registered care service

For local authority social work departments:

• Please contact your local authority and ask about their complaints procedure.  

NHS hospital or clinic:

• To raise concerns about an NHS hospital or clinic, refer this to your local NHS board. 

The Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC):

• The NMC regulates nurses and midwives in Scotland. It can consider concerns about individual nurses and midwives who are registered with the NMC. To raise a concern about a nurse or midwife, visit the NMC website

• or you can check if a nurse is registered by searching the NMC Register.

Independent health service or hospice

• Healthcare Improvement Scotland regulate independent healthcare services and hospices. To raise a concern about a service visit their website.

Planning permission and building standards

• Contact your local authority planning department.
